GHA bids to lure doctors and anaesthetists to the sun

After a hard day’s work, wouldn’t you like to relax soaking up the Mediterranean sun, or venture out and explore the natural beauty of the Iberian Peninsula, or perhaps discover the enchanting wonders of North Africa.

These are the words the Gibraltar Health Authority (GHA) is using to entice new doctors to join the authority and work at St Bernard’s Hospital.

Total value of the salary package is up to £90,000 inclusive of an out of hours supplement and salaries cover the on-call duties 1 in 5. This compares to the average salary of a GP at below £60,000.

The GHA is seeking a non consultant hospital doctor - General Medicine (equivalent to Staff Grade) as well as advertising four anaesthetist posts.

For the doctor’s post applicants should be registered with General Medical Council or awaiting registration. Information in this respect must be included with the application.

The adverts in the British Medical Journal say that the GHA offers an attractive package, which includes a tax-free gratuity of 25% of basic salary earned during employment, payable on satisfactory completion.

The second advert is for three Consultant Anaesthetists and one Consultant Anaesthetist and Pain Clinician as part of the expansion of our services and our move to a resident 24-hour coverage system.

Applications are invited from Anaesthetists with Critical Care experience who are eligible for full registration with the UK General Medical Council and hold the European Certificate of Specialist Training in Anaesthesia.

Salary, dependent on experience, ranges from £73,750 to £91,000 per annum. Additionally an 8% of basic salary per annum will be paid for undertaking on-call duties and a further 10% of basic salary will be paid for providing cross cover. The appointments will be for an initial period of three years. A tax-free gratuity of 25% of basic salary earned during the three years is payable on successful completion of contract.

Passages are payable in full and transportation of personal effects and accommodation are subsidised.
