Gibraltar News Online joins Podcasting revolution!

That’s right folks! Podcasting the News from Gibraltar!

So far as I know, I think I am right in claiming the first Podcast News of Gibraltar! Well… maybe not. I’m sure someone else will claim a ‘first’ on this one. No matter, whatever, it’s not important… the important thing is, that we ARE Podcasting… or trying to!

Here’s my first attempt at pretending to be Richard Cartwright! Always wanted to do that! No… not pretend to be Richard… I’ve always wanted to have a go at reading the news! :) Well, here is the fulfillment of at least this ambition!

Gibraltar News Online Podcast News for Saturday 26 November 2005 !

Please be patient. Podcasts, by their very nature are hefty files, as MP3 files, this one is around 8 Mbs, so it will take a little while. All worth it in the end… I hope! :) A new windown will open up, which will look blank… for around 10 minutes if you’ve only got a ‘dial up’ connection. But if you look on the bottom left corner of your browser, you will notice the file is downloading to your PC… so just be a little patient. After a while, the file will open up your media player, and you will be able to listen to the podcast. Please see instructions below, to manage Podcast downloads more efficiently. Broadband (ADSL) users should manage the download a lot quicker of course!

I very much hope you enjoy it! I would welcome any feedback! Please leave your comments at the bottom of this post (Click on Comments) or you can also discuss Podcasting in our Forum

What is Podcasting?

Podcasting has become very popular and is very much a growth industry!

Think how a desktop aggregator works. You subscribe to a set of feeds, and then can easily view the new stuff from all of the feeds together, or each feed separately.

Podcasting works the same way, with one exception. Instead of reading the new content on a computer screen, you listen to the new content using your computer, or more and more on an iPod or iPod-like device via iTunes for instance.

Think of your PC or iPod as having a set of subscriptions that are checked regularly for updates. Today there are a limited number of programs available this way. The format used is RSS 2.0 with enclosures. For quick samples of the latest podcasts, check out Audio.Weblogs.com or Podcast.net.

You don’t need any special software as your Computer or iPod will handle downloads and playback quite well. However, if you don’t have a good broadband connection, Podcast files tend to be quite large and you’re best advised to use one of these Podcast software programmes to manage things better.

Download Podcast Software

To fully enjoy what podcasting is all about, you will need to download special software to “tune in” to these podcasts. Links to software for various operating systems can be found below.
